Caring for all in our community
St. Joseph's CareVan is a 40-foot mobile health clinic that
provides free health services to people in our community who do not
have health insurance and primary access to care. Services include
screenings, health education, referral services, medical diagnoses
and treatment, pharmacy and testing. The CareVan is staffed with
physicians, nurses, a secretary, and interpreter.
The CareVan treats acute problems such as
fever, earache, upper respiratory infections, infections, sore
throat and other illnesses, chronic problems such as allergies,
high blood pressure, diabetes and joint pain. If the problem can't
be treated at the CareVan or requires ongoing treatment, the mobile
clinic staff will refer the patient to a community physician or to
one of the area's many excellent facilities.
The CareVan is also a children's
vaccination site for Public Health Services and
receives federal, state, and private grants to operate the
Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP) to increase
awareness and early detection of breast and cervical cancer for
women who do not have access to care.
