Respiratory Therapists give the breath of life!

Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCPs) are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at our Medical Center to assist in the Emergency Department, Pediatrics, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Distinct Part Skilled Nursing Facility, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit, and any area of the hospital where respiratory services are needed.

St. Joseph's Respiratory Therapists provide all general modalities of adult and pediatric therapy including aerosol, chest physiotherapy and oxygen. We provide diagnostic assistance with both screening and complete pulmonary function testing and arterial blood gas testing. Staff members attend all C-section and high-risk deliveries.

St. Joseph's Medical Center also operates a 10-bed Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU) for patients with chronic respiratory problems who need a high level of care.

Our team of Respiratory Therapists work with asthmatics, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) patients, premature infants, open heart surgery patients and any other patient that has difficulties breathing. Respiratory Therapists attend all cardiac arrests, and are responsible for airway management, including intubation. Our therapists monitor advanced life support equipment, ventilators for all patients who need ventilator assistance.
