Intensive Care

St. Joseph's Medical Center has distinct Critical Care departments to offer the most sophisticated level of care for our patients. All of our critical care areas have state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and specially trained staff, many with advanced certifications in their specialty field. The units are designed with centralized nursing stations that enable direct visibility to the patients' rooms.

Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU)

The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is a specialized nursing unit with nine beds for patients who require close observation after heart attacks, heart surgery, and other critical cardiac conditions.

To reach the CICU, call (209) 467-6370.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Our 22-bed unit is a Community Level III Neonatal Intensive Care. That means that we can care for the tiniest and sickest of infants.

The NICU is located on the second floor of our new Patient Pavilion, and consists of 8 connecting rooms creating a calm, "pod-like" environment that recreates a womb-like setting to help heal our most premature patients.

The brand new facility features sleeping recliners, 2 NICU Isolation Rooms, Family Living Room for overnight stays, and a separate waiting area for families.

Our in-house, 24 hour-a-day team of health care professionals includes:

  • Board Certified Neonatologist
  • State Certified Respiratory Care Practitioners
  • A Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Specially trained and certified nurses
  • A transport team, with all necessary emergency room equipment to bring infants to the NICU from other hospitals.
