This eight-part series is designed for people who want to learn the latest information based on current research. Learn how to take control of your disease through self-management skills that will help you stay well and prevent further complications. These classes are free of charge.

Pre-Diabetes and Diabetes Overview – This class will overview Type I (insulin-dependent) and Type II (non-insulin dependent) diabetes, as well as Pre-Diabetes, the stage before Type 2 Diabetes, including a discussion of risk factors and possible prevention. It will also address issues arising from neglected blood sugars.

Healthy Eating and Physical Activity – This class will help you understand how a consistent intake of healthy foods can help stabilize your diabetes, teach you to identify appropriate serving portions when eating out, and gain a better understanding of the interaction between food, medication, and physical activity.

Heart Health and Diabetes - Diabetes can increase your risk of heart disease. This class will teach you the ABCs of Diabetes Care by addressing a standard of care health record. We will also learn about how cholesterol and blood pressure are important in diabetes self-management.

Diabetes Medications – This class will go over the many medications prescribed for the control of blood sugars, both oral and injectable. This class will also help answer the many questions you may have regarding dosage variations.

Know Your Blood Sugar Number - This class will help identify patterns on glucose log sheets. It can help assess problems that may impact blood sugar target numbers.

Basic Carbohydrate Counting - Counting carbohydrates is a way to plan what and how much to eat when you have diabetes. You will learn what foods contain carbohydrates and how this tool can help with flexibility in food choices. Label reading and portion control will also be reviewed.

Your Diabetes Success Care Plan - This class will focus on goal setting for diabetes self-management. The key to success is to take it one goal at a time. Develop an action plan that works for you!

Questions & Answers Regarding Diabetes Care - The final class is a open forum with an opportunity for the participants to ask questions about managing diabetes with a Certified Diabetes Educator and Registered Nurse.
